This graduate certificate of the University of Wyoming certifies that those who complete
its five specialized courses possess the attitudes, knowledge, and competence necessary
to effectively teach Native American Children. Upon completion, students receive official
recognition of their achievement on their University of Wyoming transcripts and an
official certificate.
The Graduate Certificate is a post-baccalaureate, non-degree program offered by the
University of Wyoming. Courses from this program may be used to obtain a Wyoming State
teaching endorsement and meet some requirements of graduate degrees. Courses can count
toward the Master's in Education in Curriculum & Instruction and/or the Native American
& Indigenous Studies graduate minor.
This program is a Gainful Employment program.
The required TAIC certificate program courses can be used toward the completion of 4 separate items:
The UW graduate certificate in Teachers of American Indian Children. Successful completion of all 5 courses listed below.
A Wyoming State Endorsement added to an existing Wyoming teaching license. (Courses may also fill requirements for other states in the country. Please check with your state's Board of Education).
A graduate minor in Native American & Indigenous Studies (NAIS). EDCI 5110, 5121, 5130, 5141 all count toward this graduate minor. Additional courses are required. Please check with the NAIS Department.
The emphasis component of a Master's of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Wyoming. Only 12 credits taken before admission to the program can be used. If you plan to earn your TAIC certificate in conjunction with your master's, you must be admitted to the master's before completing more than 12 credits as a certificate student. If you've already been admitted to the master's program, you can add the TAIC certificate. Consult with advisor on course credit towards graduate degree outside of the College of Education.
All courses for the program are offered online. EDCI 5450 Issues in Multicultural
Education is also regularly offered online by the College of Education. Other Diversity
courses can be considered, for approval contact NAIS Director.
