Campus Construction Update for the Week of July 18

These are among the construction activities scheduled July 18-24 at the University of Wyoming:

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Wyoming Union Parking Lot Closure -- The Union lot renovation project has been delayed, and the lot is now scheduled to reopen Monday, July 26. The Day Lot (located behind Half Acre Gym) is open to "A" permits until the Union lot reopens. The north entrance to the Day Lot will also serve as the exit, so there will be vehicles entering and exiting at the same point. Please drive slowly when accessing this lot.

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Lewis Street remains closed from 9th to 11th Streets for contractor staging area. The following activities are scheduled to take place next week: First floor -- Paint walls and door frames, MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) work above the ceiling, prep for tile in restrooms, mechanical room build out, stone installation in the outreach area, and elevator installation continues. 
Second floor -- Tape and paint walls, install duct shafts and shaft wall framing, and contnue MEP work above the ceiling.
Third floor -- Drywall work, and continue MEP work above the ceiling. 
Penthouse -- Installation will continue on the air handling units (AHUs) that were placed last week. The roof parapet framing, sheathing and decking will be completed and roofing will continue. 
Exterior -- Windows installation at south elevation and east elevation third floor; stone installation is scheduled at the north elevation, along with underground steam lines, gas line, and compressed air line installation.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction (South of Willett Drive between Crane and Soule streets to Coe Street) -- Deconstruction is complete. Rough site grading is ongoing with roadbase overlay to follow. Materials were separated for recycle/re-use where possible.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction Phase II (South of Willett Drive between Crane and 22nd streets to Arrowhead) -- Abatement continues. The deconstruction contractor has begun separating interior materials for recycle/re-use where possible. The entire four blocks are fenced off; no pedestrian or vehicle traffic is allowed. Utility disconnects are ongoing with no closures expected.

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Classes will begin in the fall) -- Contractor will pick up punch list (final items to complete on list after walk-through of a project) items. AV installation is ongoing. Furniture final inspection will take place toward the end of the week.

Old Albertsons/Osco Deconstruction (15th and Spring Creek streets) -- Abatement is completed on the Albertsons building and has started on the Osco building. Deconstruction has started on Albertsons. Fencing around both buildings is completed.

Education Annex (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- Installation of art design and related finish upgrades continues on the second and third floors. Framing continues this week. There will be no access to the second or third floors. Access to the elevator for ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) route to first floor will remain.

War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- The East Stadium parking lot will be closed until August. East side restroom fixtures are being set. Stairs and handrails are being installed on the east side. Tile installation continues in the club area. Evening and weekend work is scheduled through the summer.

Kendall House (Southeast corner of 8th and Fremont streets, is the new home of the Ruckelshaus Institute and Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources and the Wyoming Conservation Corps) -- The departments have moved into the building and landscaping is completed. Design for the basement finish is complete and construction has started.

Biological Safety Lab, Level Three (BSL3) additions to the State Veterinary Laboratory -- Asbestos removal and demolition of spaces associated with renovation work in the original building began July 6.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

Biological Sciences Building -- The heat will be shut off in this building until around July 19 to replace parts and repair the heating system. Steam will still be available to the research laboratories. Temperature issues should be reported to the Physical Plant service desk.

Knight Hall -- Work continues on the east entry which will be closed until Aug. 1. Signs are in place to direct traffic to an accessible entrance on the north side of the building. Other entrances will remain open for building access.

Student Union -- Re-roofing will begin July 19. The staging area will be on the north side of the Union. No access issues are anticipated.

College of Agriculture -- Roof replacement on the original building is in progress. The staging area is on the west side of the facility facing Prexy's Pasture.

19th Street -- Work continues on the east side of the street to place landscape blocks along the sidewalk at the raised landscape area. The anticipated completion of this project is July 23. Please use caution and watch for heavy equipment in the area.

Day Lot -- Well repairs continue at the east end of the lot. Please use caution around the work area.

Indoor Practice Facility -- Construction to replace missing soffit on the west side will begin soon. Scheduling is based on the availability of an 80-foot lift.

UW Police Annex -- Repair of the retaining wall on the east side of the north parking lot will begin July 19. The west end of the lot will be available for use.

Campus Parking Lots -- Parking lot striping will occur next week on the 10th and Lewis Lot, the Day Lot, and the lot north of McWhinnie Hall. Areas will be blocked off as needed.

Campus -- Electrical meters installation continues at various campus locations. Some minor obstructions to pedestrian traffic may occur.

Campus -- The annual steam shutdown will occur July 28-Aug. 16. A portable boiler will be placed in the area of Washakie Dining Hall from July 19-Aug. 17.
