Keith Evashevski will begin duties March 1, as director of the University Counseling Center (UCC) at the University of Wyoming.

He has made contributions to UW for more than nine years as psychologist (2002); senior psychologist (2003); training coordinator (2007); associate director (2010); and as interim director since February 2011.

"Under Dr. Evashevski's leadership, UCC has offered effective counseling, outreach, crisis and training services to our students," UW Vice President for Student Affairs Sara Axelson says. "We are confident that Keith will continue to provide excellent leadership for UCC, which will sustain the provision of vital mental health support to our students. He will join the other directors -- led by Dave Cozzens, associate vice president of student affairs -- in the Health and Wellness units."

Evashevski earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from Georgia School of Professional Psychology and is a licensed psychologist.

UCC supports the personal growth, academic success and wellness of all students, not only through intervention services, but also through outreach education and consultations with UW students and the UW community. UW students can receive assistance with problems that interfere with academic progress, daily living, adjustment to university life or relationships through group, individual, or couples counseling; crisis intervention services; or brief problem-solving sessions.

The AWARE (Alcohol Wellness Alternatives, Research and Education) program promotes personal wellness via guidance, education, research, and collaboration focused on healthy choices about the use of alcohol and other drugs. UCC also provides a challenging training program for UW graduate students to develop as professional practitioners and consultants to the university and local community.

A search for a new UCC associate director will begin soon, Axelson says.
