Laramie artist Garth Cossairt’s "Water and Sky" print series can be seen this month in Gallery 234 in the lower level of the University of Wyoming Union.
A 2012 UW graduate, Cossairt shows a variety of prints and paintings in a complete installation of art. A closing reception for the artist is set for Friday, Aug. 31, from 5-7 p.m. outside the gallery.
Having suffered traumatic brain injury as a result of an auto accident, Cossairt discovered he had a true talent for art as he strived to relearn language and to speak again.
“I now keep in mind all I have learned from artists and art professors. With that wisdom and my own being, art somehow comes from my gut,” Cossairt says. “I am striving through my own works to express emotions -- particularly abstract land space and adventure in a new way of creating art that I call fire prints.”
Gallery 234 is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. during the summer and from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. during the academic year. It provides a forum for the creative and critical expression of the visual arts, and offers exhibitions of social responsibility and artistic substance.
