Experts will examine local and national implications of and challenges and opportunities presented by the Clean Power Plan during a forum Monday, April 4, at 5:30 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Union Family Room.

Proposed by the federal Environmental Protection Agency, the Clean Power Plan sets a goal to achieve a 30 percent overall reduction in carbon emissions by the year 2030, including reducing emissions from coal-fired electric power plants.

“This is one of the key issues of our time, and it is important for students to be informed of what the issues are,” says Temple Stoellinger, assistant professor in the UW Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, and co-director of the Center for Law and Energy Resources. “Our intent is to provide an educational forum to accomplish that.”

Cathy Woollums, senior vice president for environmental services and chief environmental counsel for Berkshire Hathaway Energy, will be the keynote speaker. She also will participate in a panel discussion that examines various consequences of the Clean Power Plan.

Other panelists are Ingrid “Indy” Burke, director of the Haub School at UW; Kipp Coddington, director of the Carbon Management Institute in the UW School of Energy Resources; Rob Godby, associate professor in the Department of Economics and Finance, and director of the Center for Energy Economics and Public Policy; Al Minier, Wyoming Public Service Commission chairman; and Richard Reavey, Cloud Peak Energy vice president of public affairs.
