Mental Health Awareness Week Oct. 15

A variety of mental health awareness events are planned Oct. 15-21 as part of Mental Health Awareness Week at the University of Wyoming. All events are free and open to the public, and no registration is needed.

Mental Health Awareness Week promotes emotional well-being and increases awareness about mental health issues that impact college students. Programs will include a focus on healthy coping strategies, balancing life stressors, encouraging help-seeking behavior and reducing stigma around seeking mental health support.

Events for the week are as follows:

Saturday, Oct. 15, 1 p.m. -- “Stomp Out Stigma 5K,” Washington Park. Registration for the race will begin at noon. Sponsored by Chi Sigma Iota.

Monday, Oct. 17, noon-1 p.m. -- “Life Balance Yoga,” Room 212 of the Wyoming Union. Sponsored by the UW Wellness Center. 

7-8:30 p.m. -- “Let’s Talk About Sex!,” Shoshone Room of Washakie Center. Presented by Matia Wilson and Tess Kilwein. Food provided.

Tuesday, Oct. 18, 9-10:30 a.m. -- “Step Up! Bystander Intervention Training,” Room 202 of the Wyoming Union. Presented by Michaela Tratos and Tess Kilwein.

11-11:50 a.m. -- “Say What? Navigating Social Awkwardness and Professionalism on Campus,” Room 212 of the Wyoming Union. Presented by Carole Curry.

Noon-1 p.m. -- “Life Balance Yoga,” Room 212 of the Wyoming Union. Sponsored by the UW Wellness Center.

5:30-7:30 p.m. -- “The Anonymous People,” a documentary film, will be shown in Room 115 of Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center. Sponsored by the UW Collegiate Recovery Program. Food provided.

Wednesday, Oct. 19, 10-11:50 a.m. -- “UW Gatekeepers Suicide Prevention Training,” Room 221B of the Wyoming Union. Sponsored by the University Counseling Center.

Noon-12:50 p.m. -- “Spiritual Wellness: Awakening to Life by Calming our Inner Spirits,” Room 212 of the Wyoming Union. Presented by Rob Spaulding. Food provided.

4-5 p.m. -- “Kitty De-Stressor,” Room 115 of Half Acre. Sponsored by the UW Wellness Center and Laramie Animal Welfare Society.

Thursday, Oct. 20, 11-11:50 a.m. -- “Moments of Mindfulness: Stress-Reduction and Mindfulness for Busy Students,” Room 212 of the Wyoming Union. Presented by Carole Curry and Rafael Lancelotta. Food provided.

Noon-12:50 p.m. -- “Wholehearted Wellness: Courageously Cultivating an Authentic Life,” Room 212 of the Wyoming Union. Presented by Kristina Faimon and Erica Barton.

Friday, Oct. 21, noon-12:50 p.m. -- “Unhealthy Love: Recognizing the Complexities of Intimate Partner Violence,” Room 212 of the Wyoming Union. Sponsored by UW Nontraditional and Gender Programs. Presented by Elizabeth Lembo. Food provided.
