Campus Construction Update for May 6

These are among the construction activities scheduled May 6-12 at the University of Wyoming:

Colder Weather Advisory (UW Operations) -- UW Operations asks building occupants to assist with ensuring buildings and facilities are safe and secure. Make sure all windows and doors are completely closed with windows latched at the end of each day, and report any doors or windows that you are unable to close and secure to the Service Desk (766-6225).

Snow Removal (UW Operations) -- Crews will remove snow as needed throughout the season. Watch for snow-removal equipment; be careful and safe during snow events. Call the Service Desk (766-6225) to report icy spots and problem areas.

Old Main (UW Operations, May 2018) -- Renovations will be ongoing in Room 113 through the week of May 14. Please be aware of painting operations and work crews in the building.

Campus Irrigation (UW Operations) -- Crews will begin turning on irrigation systems throughout campus. Use caution, as some sidewalks could become slick. Please excuse the inconvenience of detours walking around campus.

Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory Isolation Building (Big Horn Roofing, Laramie; June 2018) -- Work is ongoing to replace the roof over the entire building and several smaller roofs on site, weather permitting. Please use caution near this area, and be aware of equipment and materials adjacent to the project site.

Knight Hall (UW Operations, June 2018) -- Work has begun at the southwest entrance to reconstruct the flower planters and repair the exterior foyer ceiling plaster and deck area. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in this area, and observe all construction signs.

White, Orr and Downey Halls (Cowboy Glass, May 2018) -- Windows are being replaced in the lobbies. Please use caution around the glass crew working in the area.

Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) (Construction manager GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Casper; spring 2019) -- Installation of the stone veneer; exterior and interior metal stud framing, drywall and paint; mechanical/electrical/plumbing rough-ins, elevator commissioning, utility extensions; and roofing are all underway. Eleventh Street will be closed to traffic in both directions for the duration of the project. Please steer clear of heavy equipment, overhead conveying and delivery trucks parked on city streets. Please observe all construction signs.

Ross Hall (UW Operations, Structural Trades) -- Construction has begun to remodel the east wing of the second floor. The area will be blocked off. Please be cautious near the crews, and observe all posted closure notifications.

Engineering Building (UW Operations, May 2018) -- The computer lab in Engineering Rooms 6028/6021A is currently closed for expansion and remodeling. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in this area, and observe all construction signs.

Health Sciences Building (Laramie Heating and Sheet Metal, Laramie; May 2018) -- The contractor is replacing two dampers and actuators in the corridor. There will be some noise and dust. Please use caution around crews.

Wyoming Union Third Floor, Veterans Services Center (Shepard Construction; summer 2018) -- Demolition and reconstruction will continue on the third floor through July. The south end of the west wing will be impacted primarily by the noise for the next few weeks. Exterior project staging is on the southwest side of the Wyoming Union. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in this area, and observe all construction signs.

Physical Sciences Building Third Floor, WWAMI Cadaver Lab (Arcon Inc., Laramie; summer 2018) -- Mechanical and electrical rough-ins are complete in Rooms 338, 340 and 341. Wall framing and drywall are nearing completion, and painting is scheduled to begin the week of May 7.

Central Energy Plant (CEP) (Arcon Inc., Laramie; May 2018) -- Construction fence is set up around the work area for replacement of the condensate tank at CEP. The sidewalk on the west side of 19th Street may be closed; the street will be blocked occasionally. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Agriculture and Engineering Buildings (Summit Sealants, Montrose, Colo.; July 2018) -- Painting, caulking and minor repairs to the exteriors of Agriculture and Engineering will be ongoing through the spring, as weather permits.

Downey Hall (UW Structural Trades, June 2018) -- Initial phases of east-side soffit modifications and insulation addition, and access to add heat to the west-side soffit are underway, weather permitting. A new insulated door will be added in the east stairwell. Please use caution around work activities, and observe signs around the construction area.

Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center (Construction manager at risk GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Jackson; June 2018) -- Within the existing facility, metal stud framing, drywall, mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-ins are underway. All access to and egress from the Rochelle Athletics Center will be limited to the south entry doors. Construction of the north entry is underway. Traffic control, signs and barricades will be in place at the building interior and exterior during this process. Please use caution when near the project, and observe all construction signs.

Beta House, North Exterior (UW Operations) -- Work is ongoing for replacement of the loading dock and stairs. Flatwork is complete, and handrail fabrication and painting remain. The loading dock and door will remain closed through project completion. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in this area, and observe all construction signs.

Information Technology Building (Arcon Inc.; June 2018) -- Exterior work is ongoing for a new chiller installation on the south side of the IT Building. Ivinson Street by the building may be temporarily blocked during normal business hours. Additionally, work on the interior will begin mid-May on the southeast side of the building. Work crews will be transporting large equipment. Use caution around work crews.

Hoyt Hall (UW Operations) -- All power to Hoyt Hall will be shut down Tuesday, May 15, for transformer replacement. The outage will be from 6 a.m.-5 p.m.

13th and Lewis Streets Water Main Repairs (City of Laramie Water Dept.) -- The city of Laramie will be repairing and installing a new water main valve in the intersection of 13th and Lewis streets sometime during the week of May 14. No exact date or time has been given as any emergency that may arise during the regular working hours of the day will be given precedence. Buildings along Lewis Street will be affected, and those buildings will be identified in coming construction updates. Please use caution around this area.   

Half Acre Gym (Mullen’s Heating, Laramie; UW Operations PM Shop) -- The contractor will start upgrading the air filtration system in four air-handling units (AHU) May 22-24. The respective AHU will remain shut down until the upgrades are completed. Techs also will perform coil cleaning while the AHU is shut down. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The following project is complete:

Corbett Gym (SE Wyoming Insulation, Laramie) -- The contractor has completed the work on the air-handling unit that serves Corbett Gym.
