These are among the activities scheduled Sept. 9-15 at the University of Wyoming:
Tuesday, Sept. 10, 12:20 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health Promotion’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents Enette Larson-Meyer, a professor in the UW Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. She will discuss “Salt, Soil & Body Weight: Emerging Reasons We Should Evaluate Iodine Status and Thyroid Function in Athletes and Active Individuals.” Her talk will take place in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.
Tuesday, Sept. 10, 1:30 p.m. -- Members of the campus community and the public have an opportunity to weigh in on the search for the next UW president during a listening session in the Wyoming Union Ballroom.
Tuesday, Sept. 10, 5-7:30 p.m. -- The Wyoming Center on Aging, based at UW, will host Healthy U, a health workshop for people managing chronic pain and their friends, family and caregivers. The workshop will be in Ivinson Memorial Hospital’s Summit Room. There is no cost to attend, but space is limited. To register, call (307) 766-2765 or email dduhamel@uwyo.edu.
Tuesday, Sept. 10, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium full-dome movie, “Dawn of the Space Age.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Thursday, Sept. 12, 3 p.m. -- UW’s American Heritage Center presents Juan Manuel Rubio, a Majewski Research Fellow and a Ph.D. candidate at the University of California-Irvine. Rubio will discuss “American Incaism: Nature, Labor, and Race in Peru’s Copper-Mining Circuit, 1902-1912” in the History Building, Room 155. Free.
Thursday, Sept. 12, 4:30 p.m. -- An open house to honor the Black 14 football players will be hosted at the Multicultural Resource Center, located in the Wyoming Union, Room 103. The 14 UW players were dismissed from the team by head football Coach Lloyd Eaton in 1969.
Thursday, Sept. 12, 6:30-9 p.m. -- A panel discussion with the Black 14 football players will be in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. The discussion will provide a picture of the events surrounding the dismissal of the UW players from the football team in 1969. Free.
Thursday, Sept. 12, 7 p.m. -- The UW Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources Distinguished Speaker Series, in partnership with the UW College of Business, presents Andrew Hoffman, the Holcim Professor of Sustainable Enterprise at the University of Michigan. Hoffman will discuss “Finding Purpose: Environmental Stewardship as a Personal Calling” in the UW College of Business Building auditorium. A reception will follow his talk. Free.
Thursday, Sept. 12, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO hosts Moral Panic, an acoustic rock band from Laramie, in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Guitarist Doug Wood is the opening act. Free.
Friday, Sept. 13, 11:30 a.m. -- A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the UW Engineering Education and Research Building will take place inside the building, located at 1114 E. Bradley St., east of the Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility. Tours of the facility will follow. Free.
Friday, Sept. 13, noon -- The UW School of Energy Resources Speaker Series presents Edith Wilson, owner and CEO of Rock Whisperer LLC. She will discuss “Exploring New Energy Frontiers with Petroleum Geoscience Talent and Technology” in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Lunch will be provided. Free.
Friday, Sept. 13, 4 p.m. -- Cowgirl soccer vs. Southern Utah University, Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Free.
Friday, Sept. 13, 4 p.m. -- A tribute unveiling of a plaque telling the story of the Black 14 football players will take place on the southeast side of War Memorial Stadium near Gate 4. A free public reception precedes the unveiling at 3:30 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 13, 4-5:30 p.m. -- The UW Alumni Association will host a Kickoff Friday event at the Alumni Center in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. The event will include light appetizers and a cash bar.
Friday, Sept. 13, 7 p.m. -- The Cowboy Kickoff Concert will feature rock band American Authors. The Mowgli’s will open the concert in the Arena-Auditorium. For ticket information, go to www.gowyo.com/cowboykickoff.
