University of Wyoming Calendar for Nov. 11

These are among the activities scheduled Nov. 11-17 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Nov. 11, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Civic Chorus and Community Concert Band will present “An American Life” in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Tuesday, Nov. 12, 3 p.m. -- UW Libraries will host award-winning author and UW Professor Alyson Hagy. She will discuss her latest book, “Scribe: A Novel,” in Coe Library’s Alma Doke McMurry Reading Room. Free.  

Tuesday, Nov. 12, 6 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host Trey Duvall, an installation and performance artist. He will give a talk in the UW Visual Arts Building, Room 111. Free.

Tuesday, Nov. 12, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium full-dome movie, “IBEX: Search for the Edge of the Solar System.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, Nov. 13, noon -- The UW School of Energy Resources Speaker Series presents Amanda MacDonald, project manager with ConnectGen. She will provide an overview of utility-scale wind project development as well as wind industry trends in Wyoming and the U.S. in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Lunch will be provided. Free.

Wednesday, Nov. 13, 5:15 p.m. -- Ja Ian Chong, an associate professor at the National University of Singapore, will discuss “Revolution of Our Times: A Background to the 2019 Hong Kong Protests.” His talk will be in the UW Classroom Building, Room 142. The UW School of Politics, Public Affairs and International Studies hosts the talk. Free.

Wednesday, Nov. 13, 7 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. California State University-Fullerton, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Thursday, Nov. 14, 4:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology Fall Seminar Series presents Michelle Glantz, a professor and chair of the Department of Anthropology and Geography at Colorado State University. She will discuss “When Paradigms Refuse to Shift: Admixture, the Out of Africa Model of Human Origins, and Pleistocene Central Asia” in the UW Anthropology Building, Room 150. Free.

Thursday, Nov. 14, 6 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Fine Arts and Lectures Committee and StudioWYO will host a student art show in the Fireplace Lounge, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Banshee Tree, a swing/dance/jam band, and Derek Blake, an Americana musical artist, will perform during the event. Free.  

Thursday, Nov. 14, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. Boise State University, UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Thursday, Nov. 14, 7 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host Trey Duvall, an installation and performance artist. He will perform “Work Flow 004” with UW students and community members in the UW Visual Arts Building lobby. “Work Flow 004” will create an absurdist assembly line, exploring repetition, futility and fallibility. Those interested in being a part of the performance can sign up here. Free.

Thursday, Nov. 14, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Singing Statesmen and the Happy Jacks present “I Have Wings” in the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Friday, Nov. 15-Saturday, Nov. 16, all day -- Cowboy and Cowgirl swimming and diving host the Corbett Invite, UW Corbett Building. Free.

Friday, Nov. 15, noon -- April French, a UW senior academic adviser, will discuss “Protest from the Margins: A Human Rights Organization Led by Evangelical Women in the Soviet Union, 1964-1987.” Her talk will take place in the UW History Building, Room 156. Free.

Friday, Nov. 15, noon -- The UW School of Energy Resources Speaker Series presents Tara Righetti, an associate professor in the UW College of Law and School of Energy Resources. She will discuss surface and subsurface mineral rights, and how they impact oil and gas law and property owners in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Lunch will be provided. Free.

Friday, Nov. 15, 5 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music will host trumpeter John Adler in concert as part of his “Scarlet Rising Moon” album release tour. He will perform in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free. 

Friday, Nov. 15, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. Utah State University, UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.  

Friday, Nov. 15, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “Islands in the Cosmos.” The STAR Observatory on the rooftop of the Physical Sciences Building will be open to the public for a “star party” from 8-9 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Friday, Nov. 15, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series presents UW faculty members Scott Turpen, alto saxophone; and Theresa Bogard, piano, in concert. The two will perform in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Saturday, Nov. 16, 7 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. Oregon State University, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Sunday, Nov. 17, 7:30 p.m. -- UW Department of Music faculty members Ben Markley, piano; Andy Wheelock, percussion; and Gonzalo Teppa, double bass, will perform as a jazz trio in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.
