University of Wyoming Calendar for Nov. 18

These are among the activities scheduled Nov. 18-24 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Nov. 18-Saturday, Nov. 23 -- International Education Week. Various events are planned throughout the week.

Monday, Nov. 18, 7 p.m. -- The UW Department of Visual Arts presents artist and researcher Nina Elder. She will give a talk in the UW Visual Arts Building, Room 111. A reception will follow at 8 p.m. Free.

Monday, Nov. 18, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Symphonic Band will perform a fall concert in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Tuesday, Nov. 19, 6 p.m. -- UW’s Residence Life and Dining Services will host Plant and Pint Night in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Participants will receive one vessel, one vase of dirt, at least two succulents and a beverage of choice. The cost to participate is $15.

Tuesday, Nov. 19, 7 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. University of Detroit Mercy, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Tuesday, Nov. 19, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium full-dome movie, “Phantom of the Universe.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, Nov. 20, 4:10 p.m. -- The UW President’s Speaker Series will host Bruce Parkinson, the J.E. Warren Professor of Energy and Environment in the UW Department of Chemistry and School of Energy Resources. He will discuss “Our Energy Future from the World to Wyoming” in the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center. A reception will follow his talk. UW’s Office of Research and Economic Development sponsors the event. Free. 

Wednesday, Nov. 20, 6 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Club Events Committee will host the annual UW Thanksgiving dinner in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. Students must present UW student IDs to attend, and non-students must provide three canned food items, which will be donated to the Laramie Soup Kitchen.

Thursday, Nov. 21, 5:30 p.m. -- The UW Geological Museum will host a reception to introduce two independent science/art collaborative projects using fiber arts. Free.

Thursday, Nov. 21, 6 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host “Read, Rant, Relate: Partnership with Relative Theatrics.” A reading of Lucas Hnath’s “A Doll’s House, Part 2” will be performed. The reading is presented in conjunction with the Pat Guthrie Teaching Gallery Exhibition. The teaching gallery will be open from 5-6 p.m. for an informal gallery walk-through. Refreshments and discussion will follow the reading. Free.

Thursday, Nov. 21, 6:30 p.m. -- The UW Student Art League will host its annual benefit silent auction in the UW Visual Arts Building lobby. Proceeds will go toward restocking the SALivation Station, a food pantry that is located in the Visual Arts Building; community outreach programs; and student travel.

Thursday, Nov. 21, 7 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. University of Louisiana-Lafayette, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary. 

Thursday, Nov. 21, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO will host musical artists J Shogren Shanghai’d and Shawn Hess in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Nov. 21, 7:30 p.m. -- Slavic Soul Party!, a Balkan-soul-Gypsy-funk brass band, will perform in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium as part of the UW Presents fall lineup. Tickets cost $15 for the public; $12 for senior citizens, and UW faculty and staff; and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Friday, Nov. 22, 4 p.m. -- The UW Alumni Association will host a Kickoff Friday event at the Alumni Center in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. The event will include light appetizers and a cash bar.

Vaughan Planetarium show, “E.T. and the Search for Extraterrestial Intelligence.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Friday, Nov. 22-Saturday, Nov. 23, 7:30 p.m. -- UW’s Associated Students of the Performing Arts will present “Brothers of the Tiber” in the Performing Arts Studio Theatre. Tickets cost $7. Saturday, Nov. 23, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. -- The UW Lifesavers Initiative will host various activities for International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day, a day to promote hope, healing and connection through shared experiences. Saturday, Nov. 23, 11 a.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “Our Constant Companion.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Sunday, Nov. 24, 1-4 p.m. -- A naturalization workshop will take place in the UW College of Law Building, Room 178. The free services include assistance determining eligibility for citizenship, preparation of the application for citizenship and an application review by an immigration attorney.
