These are among the activities scheduled March 2-8 at the University of Wyoming:
Monday, March 2, 6:30-9 p.m. -- Public viewing of Wyoming State Science Fair research posters will take place in the Wyoming Union Ballroom.
Monday, March 2, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series presents Katherine Smith, UW horn instructor; Don Williams, Casper College trumpet instructor; and Paula Flynn, Casper College music instructor. They will perform in the UW Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.
Tuesday, March 3, 8:30-10 a.m. -- Public viewing of Wyoming State Science Fair research posters will take place in the Wyoming Union Ballroom.
Tuesday, March 3, 4:30 p.m. -- Helene Neville, an avid runner, nurse and cancer survivor, will present “Rethink Impossible” in the UW College of Business auditorium. The UW College of Business’ Sandberg Speaker Series and the Honors College co-sponsor her talk. Free.
Tuesday, March 3, 7 p.m. -- “The Human Race,” a documentary that chronicles the stories of six runners over the age of 50, will be screened in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Liz Vassey, a television actor and runner, made her directorial debut with the film. She will participate in a question-and-answer session following the screening. The UW College of Business’ Sandberg Speaker Series and the Honors College co-sponsor the event. Free.
Wednesday, March 4, 9-11:30 a.m. -- The Wyoming Center on Aging, based at UW, will host Healthy U, a health workshop for people managing chronic pain and their friends, family and caregivers. The workshop will be at the Eppson Center for Seniors, located at 1560 N. Third St. in Laramie. There is no cost to attend. To register, call (307) 766-2765 or email dduhamel@uwyo.edu.
Wednesday, March 4, 12:10-12:50 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host “Lunchtime Conversations with Curators,” an informal gallery walk-through. Attendees should meet in the entrance hall for a walk-through of the 45th annual Juried UW Student Exhibition. Lunch will be provided. Free.
Wednesday, March 4, 6 p.m. -- UW’s WWAMI Medical Education Program, in collaboration with Ivinson Memorial Hospital, will offer a “Stop the Bleed” class in the UW College of Health Sciences Building, Room 459. “Stop the Bleed” is a national awareness campaign intended to encourage bystanders to become trained and equipped to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. Registration is free.
Thursday, March 5, 5-7 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will kick off a monthlong art celebration with “Family Night at the Museum.” This family-friendly event will offer opportunities to look at art and try out art-making activities. Pizza will be available while it lasts. Free.
Thursday, March 5, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO will host Sunnydale High, a post-punk quartet, and Shotgun Shogun, a Laramie-based rock band, in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.
Thursday, March 5, 7:30 p.m. -- Aquila Theatre will present its adaptation of George Orwell’s “1984” in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. The performance is part of the UW Presents spring season. Tickets cost $20 for the public; $17 for senior citizens, and UW faculty and staff; and $10 for students. Friday, March 6, noon -- The UW Department of Botany’s Martha Christensen Lecturer Series presents Christopher Blackwood, a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Kent State University. He will discuss “Roots, rots & restoration: Shifting ecosystem states through belowground ecology” in the UW Classroom Building, Room 310. Free.
Friday, March 6, noon -- The UW School of Energy Resources Speaker Series presents Rick Honaker, a professor in the Department of Mining Engineering at the University of Kentucky. He will discuss rare earth element recovery in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Lunch will be provided. Free.
Friday, March 6, 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will screen “Frozen II” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. A meet-and-greet with special guest Elsa will take place at 5:30 p.m. Free.
Friday, March 6-Saturday, March 7, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 8, 2 p.m. -- The UW Department of Theatre and Dance presents “Spring to Dance” on the Performing Arts main stage. Tickets cost $14 for the public, $11 for senior citizens and $7 for students. Saturday, March 7, 10 a.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host Family Saturday Workshop for families and individuals of all ages. Family Saturday Workshop is an open studio, makerspace-inspired workshop led by the UW Art Museum’s trained teaching artists and educators. Free.
Saturday, March 7, 2 p.m. -- The UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium presents “Seeing!” and “From Earth to the Universe,” two full-dome movies, in the Physical Sciences Building basement. Tickets cost $3 for students and $5 for nonstudents. Tickets for children under age 5 are free. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/planetarium.
