The University of Wyoming Collegiate Chorale will sing at the Northwestern American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) conference in Spokane, Wash., Thursday, March 12. The conference is March 11-14.
The group was judged on a span of three consecutive years of work. Only the top choirs from the region are invited to perform during the conference, each representing excellence in collegiate choral singing. The northwestern region consists of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming.
The Collegiate Chorale is UW’s flagship choral ensemble composed primarily of undergraduate students, including nonmusic majors. The group presents creative programming with deep connections to text and music.
UW Director of Choral Activities Nicole Lamartine leads the group. She and the choir have garnered an international reputation, with invitations to perform at the 47th Tolosa Choral Contest in Spain, two National Association for Music Education conferences and the National Collegiate Choral Organization conference.
Additionally, the Collegiate Chorale has earned a reputation for premieres of works by award-winning composers, including Craig Hella Johnson, Jennifer Higdon, Forrest Pierce and Libby Larsen.
Lamartine also directs the UW Singing Statesmen and the Happy Jacks, while teaching conducting and studio voice. She is in demand as a conductor and clinician across the U.S., China and Europe. Lamartine’s recent conducting engagements include All-State choirs in Minnesota, Colorado, Oregon, Montana, Washington, Alaska and Wyoming, as well as honor choirs in Germany, United Arab Emirates and Oman.
“Singing at this conference will continue to generate awareness of our excellent music program and will, no doubt, increase our influx of students from the region,” Lamartine says.
The Collegiate Chorale will be featured in ACDA’s national publication, the Choral Journal, before the conference. The choir also will be featured on the ACDA national and regional websites.
