University of Wyoming Department of Music faculty members John Fadial and Chi-Chen Wu will present “The Complete Works of Fauré for Violin and Piano” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 12 (tonight).
The duo will present the music free virtually, which can be accessed at https://youtu.be/kVqxvR7HOtU.
Trained as a young boy to be an organist and choirmaster at the Paris school for church music, École Niedermeyer, Fauré gained mastery of counterpoint and classical forms, but also of ancient church modes. He later was able to write chromatic 20th century music, which remained grounded in a traditional, universally expressive language.
Fadial and Wu’s program will feature music from every period of Fauré’s life, culminating in his final sonata that would usher in the modernism of his students, including Maurice Ravel and Nadia Boulanger, who would become the teacher of Aaron Copland and Astor Piazzola.
