The annual household item giveaway for international students attending the University of Wyoming is scheduled Saturday, Aug. 21, in the parking and circle drive area south of the Cheney International Center.
Those with items to donate are asked to enter between 11th and 12th streets off Ivinson Avenue between 7-7:45 a.m. Students will be allowed to take items beginning at 8 a.m.
“This amazing event helps new international students receive basic necessities for their new homes in Laramie,” says Abby Lozano, a coordinator in the International Students and Scholars (ISS) office. “Items typically include small pieces of furniture, clothing, toys, kitchen supplies and more for our incoming international students.”
All donations are subject to inspection. Items that are broken or are missing pieces will not be accepted.
“If you would like to donate any items, please drop them off the morning of the giveaway. The ISS office does not have a place to store items before the giveaway,” Lozano says. “If you wish to donate a mattress or any large item, plan on providing transportation assistance to help students move the items into their homes. Many incoming international students do not have access to a vehicle.”
Items that are not taken by students will need to be picked up after the event, usually between 9-9:15 a.m.
For more information about the event, call the ISS office at (307) 766-5193 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
