A celebration of the life and career of University of Wyoming Department of Anthropology Professor George Frison is from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in the Hilton Garden Inn ballroom in Laramie. A reception follows.
Frison, a Worland native and UW graduate who achieved international acclaim as an archaeologist during a lengthy career as a UW faculty member, died last year at age 95. He founded UW’s Department of Anthropology and was the first state archaeologist. Frison is the only UW faculty member ever elected to the National Academy of Sciences.
Giving remarks at the memorial will be current UW Department of Anthropology Professors Robert Kelly and Marcel Kornfeld, and retired department faculty members George Gill and Charles Reher; Mark Miller, the former state archaeologist; Danny Walker, a former assistant state archaeologist; and Tom Westfall, a Frison Institute board member, from Sterling, Colo.
