Deborah Marutzky has been appointed as the University of Wyoming’s interim associate vice president for human resources, effective Oct. 1.
In her new role, Marutzky will serve as the top human resources executive at the university, which is one of Wyoming’s largest employers with more than 5,000 workers across the state.
Marutzky replaces Associate Vice President Tom Koczara, who is assuming the role of vice president for human resources at Coastal Carolina University near Myrtle Beach, S.C. Marutzky will report to Senior Vice President Neil Theobald.
“This is an exciting time to be taking on new challenges, because HR is undergoing a transformation across UW after the complete implementation of WyoCloud HCM,” Marutzky says. “It’s important to note that HR is committed to providing innovative and customer-focused HR services, along with a dedication to UW’s strategic plan and continuous improvement. I look forward to developing even deeper connections and supporting UW employees and constituents in this new role.”
“I want to thank Tom Koczara for his extraordinary efforts to improve the conditions and workplace environment of all UW employees,” Theobald says. “Deb’s commitment to ensuring that HR issues and the needs of UW’s employees are always considered in the development and implementation of UW policies and institutional strategies positioned her as the ideal candidate to continue and expand not only Tom’s role as an innovator, but also his invaluable contributions as wise counsel to me.”
Marutzky has served UW in various HR roles since 2011, most recently as UW’s manager of talent acquisition. Before joining UW, Marutzky worked as a records/administrative specialist with the city of Grand Junction, Colo.
