The University of Wyoming club tennis team is competing in its first in-person tournament since COVID-19 shut down many activities in 2020. The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs hosts the tournament Oct. 2-3.
“We are extremely excited to be back after a year off,” says Lea Bergman, club president from Laramie. “This helps new members and freshmen get involved and learn why club tennis is so much fun.”
Multiple club tennis teams will be present at the two-day event, including teams from the University of Denver, the University of Colorado-Denver and the University of New Mexico. UW club tennis is sending three teams composed of 12-15 athletes.
COVID-19 shut down many parts of campus life for UW students, including travel for some teams. However, the UW club tennis team was able to hold practices with a limited number of members throughout the last year, Bergman says.
“It was a hard year not to be able to compete,” she adds. “This fall is looking immensely more hopeful, and the team is already preparing for a much more competitive season.”
