The University of Wyoming Collegiate Chorale will present a “Joyous Hope” holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at Laramie’s United Presbyterian Church, located at 215 S. 11th St.
Tickets are $12 for the public; $8 for senior citizens; $6 for students not attending UW; and free to UW students with a “W” number. To purchase tickets, visit the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts. The concert also will livestream at https://youtu.be/yDnE8LreOZA.
“Joyous Hope” focuses on the “many ways we understand hope in our lived experience as yearning; joy; worship and praise; anticipation; promise; light and wonder; and unconditional love,” according to the program.
The concert features readings and music from a variety of cultures, including choral compositions by Maurice Duruflé; Trond Kverno; Morten Lauridsen; Louis Lewandowski; Felix Mendelssohn; Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina; and Josef Rheinberger. The selections are composed in Latin, German, Hebrew, Yiddish and English.
Two Hebrew pieces will feature Valentina Gavrilova on the organ. The audience will be invited to sing two carols -- “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “Joy to the World.”
