The University of Wyoming Jazz Combos will perform Wednesday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall.
UW’s Jazz Studies program presents the concert, which is free and open to the public.
The UW Department of Music’s Ryan Fourt, a jazz guitar lecturer, and Ben Markley, an associate professor and director of Jazz Studies; and graduate assistant Michael Johnston lead the combos. The combos will perform jazz standards, student arrangements and student compositions.
Jazz Combo III, directed by Johnston, will perform “I Mean You” by Thelonious Monk; “Perception” by Chick Corea; and “Bag’s Groove” by Milt Jackson.
Fourt directs UW Jazz Combo II, and the ensemble will perform “Big Slick” by Fourt; “Stoner Hill” by Brian Blade; and “Recorda Me” by Joe Henderson.
UW Jazz Combo I, directed by Markley, will perform “Wheel Within a Wheel” by Bobby Watson; “Pokrok” by Jackson Chitwood; “On My Way Home” by Maurice Brown; and “Nothing Like You” by Bob Dorough.
