In describing Matt Hatton’s role as a University of Wyoming executive information specialist, a colleague says Hatton has the most selfless vision for the future of the team’s organization and comes to work with a clear mission to better everyone around him.
Hatton, who started his current UW Foundation position in November 2019, has received many accolades from those with whom he works, including campuswide. For that, he recently was selected as the recipient of the UW Staff Employee of the First Quarter Award.
He has been working for the UW Foundation for seven years, first as an IT support staff member and then moving to the organization’s information services area in 2018. Among his current job duties are:
-- Developing integrations with on-campus or external platforms and services.
-- Identifying and implementing corrections or cleanup of the UW Foundation’s data.
-- Writing SQL (structured query language) reports (data queries) to pull information for a variety of foundation and campus needs.
-- Configuring and customizing the front and back ends of the foundation’s CRM (customer relationship management) system.
-- Collaborating with UW Foundation and campus staff on projects and offering technical advice.
-- Documenting best practices and developing/implementing tools to adhere to those practices.
“Simply being nominated is such an honor, and I cannot express my gratitude enough,” Hatton says. “I am so lucky to work with these amazing professionals; I would not be anywhere without them. They are truly inspirational, perpetually helpful and an absolute joy to work with.”
One nominator says Hatton has had an impact on everyone he works with across the campus community.
“From the team that he leads to the recipients of his work, we are all aware of how advantageous it is to have Matt working with our team,” a colleague writes.
Another marvels at Hatton’s attention to work details in all tasks.
“He has rewritten the book when it comes to executing the duties assigned to his role. His attention to detail and foresight have immeasurably improved nearly all functions in his department,” the nominator says. “He tirelessly streamlines operations to change what would have previously been a colossal lift for multiple people into an accountable, automated process. He has converted data streams that used to be in the millions of characters down to simple scripts that can be easily monitored and augmented to suit his co-workers’ needs.”
According to another nominator, Hatton has almost single-handedly upgraded the entire order of operations within his department to streamline processes and ensure that no data request goes unaddressed or takes more than a couple of minutes to sort out.
“He has made nearly everyone’s work so much easier through his tireless commitment to his role, even taking on challenges that were not yet recognized as critical goals within our organization,” the nominator says. “He is an absolute marvel in his work and a wonderful person to engage with. Matt puts in more hours than there are in a week -- every week.”
A reception for Hatton will be announced later.
An Employee of the Quarter nominee can be any UW staff employee, and each must receive three nomination forms from three separate individuals. Nominations must be submitted to the Staff Senate office. The forms are on the web and can be found here.
