The University of Wyoming Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band will present “Changemakers,” a concert featuring contemporary and historic composers who have changed the concepts, perceptions and directions of the modern wind band and have influenced those who have followed.

The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. UW Department of Music faculty members Robert Belser and Joseph Carver will conduct, along with guest conductor Amber Sturdevant, a UW McMurry graduate teaching assistant from Gillette.

Tickets are $14 for the public, $10 for senior citizens and $8 for students. To purchase tickets, visit the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.tix.com/ticket-sales/uwyo/6984. UW faculty and staff members, and military personnel can purchase tickets at a discounted rate. To receive the discount, visit the Performing Arts box office between noon-6 p.m. Monday-Friday or call (307) 766-6666.

The Symphonic Band will feature “Fanfare for Justice” by Richard Saucedo; “Children’s March: Over the Hills and Far Away” by Percy Grainger; “Loch Lomond” by Frank Ticheli; “Arabesque” by Samuel Hazo; “Mambo Perro Loco” by Julie Giroux; and “On the Campus” by John Philip Sousa.

The Wind Symphony will follow with “Symphony No. IV: Bookmarks from Japan” by Emmy Award-winning musician and composer Giroux; and “Russian Christmas Music,” first written by composer Alfred Reed in 1944, revised by him in 1947 and adapted by Reed in 1969 to accommodate the expanding and changing common instrumentation of the wind band.

The Wind Symphony will reprise this piece at the coming Holiday Gala Saturday, Dec. 10, and Sunday, Dec. 11, with the addition of choral parts created by Belser from his research on the carols and liturgical music Reed used.
