UW Foundation Seeks Nominations for Stewardship Award

The University of Wyoming Foundation is accepting nominations for the Stewardship Award. The deadline for nominations is March 13.

This year, two faculty members will receive the honor.

The UW Foundation Stewardship Award recognizes the leadership of a UW faculty member who has excelled in the relationship building and stewardship of alumni and donors and in engaging former students in the activities of UW, and has shown a commitment to strong external relationships for the betterment of the university.

“When donors forge relationships on campus -- particularly with faculty members -- they feel even more a part of the university’s mission,” says Greg Dyekman, a UW Foundation board member.

Recipients of the award will personally receive $5,000; their college or department will receive $2,500; and recipients may direct another $2,500 toward a university unit or club of their choice. The UW Foundation funds the awards.

Last year, the UW Foundation Stewardship Award went to UW Department of Physics and Astronomy Professor Chip Kobulnicky.

“This award honors those who have distinguished themselves by being the human links between donors and their university,” Kobulnicky says.

Kobulnicky was nominated by UW College of Arts and Sciences Associate Dean Danny Dale. Kobulnicky was recognized specifically for his leadership of UW’s Teton STEM Academy -- a science camp for high school students that incorporates life science, physical science, math and engineering.

“When the passion of a donor intersects with the mission of the university, wonderful things can happen,” says UW Provost and Executive Vice President Kevin Carman. “Even greater things are possible when a donor sees that their gift is having enormous impact. Dr. Kobulnicky has done a wonderful job of building the Teton STEM Academy, advocating for it and delivering on fulfilling its vision.”

Any UW employee, UW trustee or UW Foundation board member may nominate. Individuals may not self-nominate. All faculty members are eligible to be nominated, with the exception of vice presidents, deans and other campus leaders whose job descriptions intrinsically include the stewardship of donors.
