Beginning this month, the Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network will host a six-part webinar series about the State Trade Expansion Program that will guide small-business owners through the steps to expand into international trade and to provide real-world examples from successful Wyoming small-business exporters.
Multiple speakers will provide an overview of exporting readiness during the first webinar in the series titled “Are You Ready to Export?” from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11. To register, go here. Registration is free.
Speakers are Suzette Nickle, director of U.S. Commercial Service Denver; John Privette, a regional director and international trade specialist with the Wyoming SBDC Network, and a National Association of Small Business International Trade Educators certified global business professional; and Sam Clikeman, founder of Big Lost Meadery. Since opening in 2014, the company has been through four expansions and grown to establish distribution in six states and Taiwan, with direct-to-household sales in 42 states.
In 2019, Wyoming companies exported more than $1.37 billion in goods to the world. Of the companies that export, 97 percent are small businesses.
The webinar training series is presented in collaboration with the Wyoming Business Council, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), U.S. Department of Commerce and the Wyoming Procurement Technical Assistance Center. This series will help small businesses evaluate whether exporting might be right for them; help them develop an initial exporting plan; and explain how to access grant funding that may be available in Wyoming to help offset some of the costs of becoming export ready.
Future webinars in the series are scheduled Jan. 25, Feb. 8 and 23, and March 8 and 22.
