The University of Wyoming Department of Music will host guest pianist Ray Kilburn Saturday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The recital is free and open to the public.
The program will feature works by Johannes Brahms, Francois Morel, Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann.
Canadian pianist Kilburn, a sought-after recitalist, master teacher and adjudicator, has maintained a successful career that has spanned North and Central America, Europe and Asia. Critics have been unanimous in praise of his outstanding technical abilities and artistic temperament. John Lambert, of Spectator magazine, describes Kilburn as “a powerhouse player infused with musicianship and taste.”
He has been heard frequently on Radio Canada in live concert broadcasts, on WCPE and the ETV networks in the United States, and the NHK television network in Japan. He has been a featured guest artist on numerous concert series and at many colleges and universities. He also is an active chamber music performer.
Kilburn is an associate professor at Ball State University, where he teaches piano performance. He previously held tenured faculty positions at Coastal Carolina University and Peace College. His students have distinguished themselves through winning prizes in national and international competitions and obtaining faculty positions at colleges and universities.
