Active Threat Response Training to Begin Wednesday in UW’s Wyoming Union

In coordination with the Wyoming Union, the University of Wyoming Police Department (UWPD) will host an active threat response training Wednesday-Friday, June 21-23, in the Wyoming Union.

The west-side entrance of the Wyoming Union will be temporarily closed. The University Store and dining entities in the building -- Rolling Mill, Panda Express and CJ’s -- will remain open and accessible via the south and east entrances.

“While signage and reminders will be present throughout the Wyoming Union and at entrances, sounds and sights from the training simulations may be difficult for some visitors,” says Erik Kahl, director of the Wyoming Union.

Visitors will notice an increased police presence around the building, he adds.

Every year, local and regional law enforcement officers participate in active threat response training. The training is a combination of classroom and intensive scenarios that are designed to evaluate and strengthen law enforcement response.

“Active threat response training ensures every officer is capable and fully prepared to respond appropriately in the event of active violence,” says UW Police Chief Josh Holland. “Hosting the training on campus ensures greater familiarity with our buildings and improves response and recovery capabilities should we face such an incident on campus.”

The Wyoming Union will resume normal operations Monday, June 26.
