Steve Scott, an institutional computer reporting analyst in the University of Wyoming’s Office of Institutional Analysis, interprets data about UW and produces reports for UW leaders and others.
Described by colleagues as meticulous, knowledgeable, caring, thoughtful, kind and funny, Scott has been selected as the UW Staff Employee of the Second Quarter.
The award, sponsored by Staff Senate, recognizes UW staff members for their efforts toward excellence in the workplace. A reception for Scott will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, in Room 404 of Old Main. The event is open to the UW community; cake and light refreshments will be served.
“Steve has a huge impact on the entire university,” one nominator says. “The reports he is producing are beneficial to upper administrators, as they assist in strategic initiatives and decision-making. Other reports that Steve provides are external facing and help consumers learn more about the great things UW has to offer. The university is extremely fortunate to have Steve Scott on the team. If only we could find a way to clone him.”
“UW has benefited from Steve's involvement at every level,” another colleague says. “The impact Steve has reaches within and across many different departments, acting as a resource for colleagues, always open to providing useful insight and information, always able to help in some way. The department, division and the university benefit by having someone who is highly knowledgeable in multiple areas, willing to help in ways that go beyond specifically assigned duties and is always looking out for the best interest of the university and what we do here.”
Scott joined the Office of Institutional Analysis in 2020, after working 14 years at UW in Admissions, Information Technology, and Scholarships and Financial Aid. He holds a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from UW.
“Steve is meticulous with the work that he produces. Everything that he has reported for me comes together quickly and accurately,” a nominator says. “He also has a knack for providing data that is understandable to everyone. Steve gets work requests from all over campus and has a great ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.”
Scott’s manner in working with others also draws praise.
“Steve is always thoughtful about how his actions and behaviors help others around him. He is always putting himself last and goes far above and beyond,” a nominator says. “He is kind, funny and wants to ensure he communicates to all areas that he works with. He is always willing to think critically about how data informs our work.”
For his part, Scott says he is inspired by colleagues at the university.
“I am grateful to everyone I work with here at UW,” he says. “I continue to learn from my colleagues and take inspiration from our group efforts to help students attend and make the most of their time at UW.”
An Employee of the Quarter nominee can be any UW staff employee, and each must receive three nomination forms from three separate individuals. Nominations must be submitted to the Staff Senate office. The form can be found here.
Nominations are now being accepted for Employee of the Third Quarter. The deadline to nominate someone is 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15.
