UW’s Wyoming Center on Aging Offers Help for Caregivers

The Wyoming Center on Aging at the University of Wyoming will continue offering free educational opportunities this October for caregivers of persons living with dementia.

These programs will be presented in-person as part of a three-part series titled “Dementia on the Road.” They are designed to provide valuable, practical help for caregivers, family members and friends of persons living with dementia throughout Wyoming. The schedule is:

-- Gillette -- Wednesday, Oct. 4, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Campbell County Senior Center, 701 Stocktrail Ave.

-- Riverton -- Thursday, Oct. 5, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Central Wyoming College, Intertribal Education and Community Center, Rooms 115-116.

-- Rock Springs -- Friday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Western Wyoming Community College, Rooms 3650 A-B.

Each program will feature a panel presentation by regional experts in the field of dementia care and will provide practical guidance in accessing local professional help. There will be ample time for attendees to participate with their questions and comments. Vendor space is available; information may be obtained by contacting the Wyoming Center on Aging directly. There is no charge to attend any of these sessions, but lunch will be served at each location, so pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

This three-part series is part of the ongoing effort of Wyoming Dementia Together, a regional, multistate team of experienced dementia care professionals operating under the Wyoming Center on Aging and dedicated to supporting those who are caring for persons with dementia. The group was organized three years ago and has been offering free, biweekly Zoom programming in areas such as utilizing community resources; building and strengthening support networks; learning how to manage stress; and other challenging situations.

The mission of the Wyoming Center on Aging is to optimize the health and well-being of Wyoming’s older residents and their caregivers through interagency partnerships, basic and applied research, community education, and clinical training and services.
