Registration is now open for the 2024 Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Summit. The University of Wyoming’s Wyoming Outdoor Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality (WORTH) Initiative and the Wyoming Office of Outdoor Recreation are co-convening the three-day event.
The Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Summit will be held Thursday and Friday, April 18-19, at the Best Western Hotel and Conference Center in Casper. The summit aims to build on the work from the UW Ruckelshaus Institute’s 2023 Emerging Issues Forum on Outdoor Recreation while sharing success stories and highlighting challenges of building outdoor recreation in Wyoming, with a focus on projects spearheaded by Wyoming’s outdoor recreation collaboratives.
Businesses and employees who work in outdoor recreation, nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, advocacy groups and vendors who sell equipment or services should consider attending.
“The Emerging Issues Forum was such a success in 2023; the 200-plus attendees really wanted the work to continue, so we chose to continue to host this summit annually,” says Dan McCoy, interim director of the WORTH Initiative.
The two-day Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Summit also includes an additional day of programming focused on raising awareness and building capacity for Wyoming search and rescue teams. The search and rescue conference will be held directly after the summit Saturday, April 20, and will feature voices from the Wyoming search and rescue community.
A key aspect of these events is an emphasis on soliciting ideas for presentations and workshops from the community. Interested individuals are encouraged to submit a proposal for consideration. While delivery methods that encourage audience participation, group discussion or facilitated workshops are encouraged, there is no requirement for submission.

For more information, email Taylor Kruger, WORTH research associate, at tkruger@uwyo.edu.
The WORTH Initiative aims to support, expand and diversify Wyoming’s economy through outdoor recreation, tourism and hospitality industries by delivering timely and relevant applied research; supplying diverse workforce training products and services; and providing extension and outreach to these industries across Wyoming.
