UW Art Museum to Host Second Annual ’Tis the Season Event

The University of Wyoming Art Museum will celebrate the winter season by hosting its second annual ’Tis the Season event.

The museum will present free seasonal programs Wednesday, Dec. 13; Thursday, Dec. 14; and Saturday, Dec. 16.

Finals Week Winter Wind Down will take place Dec. 13 from 6-9 p.m. UW students are invited to visit the museum classroom for some food and art-making activities designed to help take some of the stress out of exams. They can make an ornament felting project as well as screen print or iron on a collage on a tote bag or T-shirt. Students can bring their own blank T-shirts or tote bags, or they can purchase blank tote bags for $5 each at the event. A limited supply of bags will be available.

The UW Art Museum’s Community Celebration of Lights is planned Dec. 14 from 4-7 p.m. The celebration is open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.

The museum’s teaching artists will lead participants through creating paper and metal lanterns to take home and to help fill the museum lobby with seasonal lights. The Wyoming Film Gallery will be transformed into a winter-themed shadow puppet theater, and attendees can create original shadow puppets.

Thursday’s event also will feature a youth open mic night in the museum’s Resource Room. Performers 18 and under are invited to sign up to share a song, poem, story or any other outlet for creativity. Interested artists can sign up to perform by clicking here.

Additionally, the Snowy Range Academy choir will perform at 5 p.m. Then, at 6 p.m., museum staff members will lead a guided gallery tour.

’Tis the Season will wrap up Dec. 16 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. with the Community Winter Celebration. All activities are open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.

The museum’s teaching artists will demonstrate the art of snow dyeing, and attendees will be able to dye socks. Attendees also can help turn the museum’s lobby windows into a winter wonderland mosaic and make take-home winter lanterns out of paper and metal. Additionally, artists from Relative Theatrics will host winter-themed storytelling for children.
