UW and Wyoming APEX Accelerator to Host Foreign Ownership Workshop Feb. 20

Small-business owners will have an opportunity to learn about foreign ownership, control or influence (FOCI) Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Sarah Mikesell Growney, Kelly Haigler Cornish and Rocky Case will discuss the subject during a Wyoming APEX Accelerator “Lunch and Learn” webinar titled “Foreign Ownership Control and Influence: What You Need to Know as a Government Contractor” from noon-1 p.m. To register, go here. Wyoming APEX Accelerator, part of the Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network housed at the University of Wyoming, is the state’s expert in government contracting assistance.

As small-business owners begin to build their businesses and seek board members, leadership and investments, it is imperative for them to be mindful from where their partners and investments come.

During the webinar, small-business owners will learn what FOCI is and why it matters; how companies can mitigate future issues in the world of government contracting; and how to obtain startup funding, including small business innovation research (SBIR) and small business technology transfer (STTR) contracts and grants from government entities.

Mikesell Growney is a procurement adviser for Wyoming APEX Accelerator; Haigler Cornish is program manager for the Wyoming SBIR/STTR Initiative; and Case is director of Manufacturing Works.
