UW’s Wyoming SBDC Network Podcast Interviews Owners of Tech Business and Pizza Joint

The Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network podcast returns with two new episodes that feature interviews with the co-founder of Wyonics, a Laramie-based sustainable technology business, and the owner of Legend Pizza in Powell.

The podcast features small-business success stories, educational topics from experts and interviews with staff and leadership. Episodes are typically released twice per month.

The Wyoming SBDC Network offers business expertise to help Wyoming residents think about, launch, grow, reinvent or exit their business. The Wyoming SBDC Network is hosted by the University of Wyoming with state funds from the Wyoming Business Council and funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The Wyoming SBDC Network released both podcast episodes Feb. 14 featuring Kristin Di Bona, co-founder of Wyonics, and Brenda Mattson, the recent new owner of Legend Pizza.

In the first episode, Di Bona sat down with the Wyoming SBDC Network to discuss how the company brings sustainable technology to Wyoming and beyond. Di Bona also talks about how Wyonics plans to scale its operation from research and development to manufacturing and commercialization. Additionally, the podcast explores Wyonics’ work with the Wyoming Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Initiative, and the Phase 1 and 2 grants the company has received to develop its technology.

The second episode features a conversation with Mattson, who took ownership of Legend Pizza in November 2023. Legend Pizza, formerly known as Pizza on the Run, has been a fixture in Powell for decades. Mattson was a manager of the business for more than eight years. This experience made her a natural choice to continue the legacy of the restaurant. The episode covers her succession from manager to new owner of the thriving business; her leadership style; and what she hopes to accomplish with her ownership transition.
