UW Jazz Combos to Perform April 24

The University of Wyoming Department of Music will present the Jazz Combo Showcase Wednesday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall.

The free public concert will feature a program of jazz standards, arrangements and original works.

The concert will open with UW Jazz Combo 3, directed by Seth Lewis, UW Department of Music double bass lecturer. The ensemble will perform “Strawberry Jam” by Jacob Walker; “You’d Be So Nice to Come Home to” by Cole Porter; “Nica’s Dream” by Horace Silver; and “Step Lightly” by Blue Mitchell.

UW Jazz Combo 2, directed by Ryan Fourt, UW Department of Music jazz guitar lecturer, will follow with “Slam” by Jim Hall; “Mr. Kenyatta” by Lee Morgan; and “Lolita” by Barry Harris. 

UW Jazz Combo 1, directed by Andy Wheelock, director of UW Jazz Studies, will close out the concert. The ensemble will perform “Dat Dere” by Bobby Timmons, arranged by Colby Turpen; “That Old Feeling” by Sammy Fain, arranged by Bryce Schlachter; “Crisp Days” by Meade Stubson; “Children of the Night” by Wayne Shorter, arranged by Ryan Larsen; and “The Core” by Freddie Hubbard, arranged by Stubson.
