UW Staff Recognition Day April 16 in Arena-Auditorium

It may be in a new venue, but the University of Wyoming’s annual Staff Recognition Day’s traditional focus will remain the same: honoring the many UW staff members for their ongoing service to the university.

Staff Recognition Day will take place from 11 a.m-1 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, on the east side of the Arena-Auditorium (A-A).

The event will feature game prizes, entertainment, food, years of service recognition and awards to UW’s outstanding staff members. A highlight will be the announcement of the Employee of the Year.

Staff Recognition Day provides an opportunity to show staff members how much they are appreciated for everything they do to keep UW -- on the main campus and throughout the state -- functioning and providing a top-notch educational experience for thousands of students.

President Ed Seidel has granted UW employees a maximum of 2.5 hours of release time to attend the event. The scheduling of release time should be a collaborative discussion between employee and supervisor to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the unit.

Free parking will be available in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center, and attendees can walk across the parking lot to the A-A. Shuttle bus service will be available at the A-A, the Classroom Building and the Wyoming Union. A bus schedule will be available later.

Presentation of the awards will be at 11 a.m. near Mickey’s Club in the A-A’s east side with opening remarks from Seidel. Awards to be presented are Employee of the Year Award; All-Star Team Staff Award; E.G. Meyer Family Award; Jodi K. Humphrey Inspirational Staff Award; Unsung Hero Award; Off-Campus Award; Pete Simpson Golden Gloves Award; Skilled Trades Award; Custodian of the Year Award; Supervisor of the Year Award; and True Grit Award.

Seidel will present his Presidential Excellence Award that recognizes a UW staff member who exemplifies excellence and demonstrates commitment to achieving the university’s strategic plan.

A 50/50 raffle and meat raffle are available, with tickets available for purchase here. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5, and people do not have to be present to win.

“Thank you to the many faculty, deans and students who have volunteered to help serve food to our esteemed staff,” say event organizers.
