The University of Wyoming Department of Music’s Jazz Studies program will present “Spring Swing” Thursday, April 25.
UW Jazz Ensemble II and the Wyoming Jazz Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Ogechi Ukazu, interim director of bands, directs UW Jazz Ensemble II, and Andy Wheelock, director of UW Jazz Studies, directs the Wyoming Jazz Ensemble.
Tickets are $12 for the public, $8 for senior citizens and $6 for students. A nominal processing fee will be charged for each ticket. To purchase tickets, visit the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.tix.com/ticket-sales/uwyo/6984.
The ensembles will perform a program of big band repertoire, ranging from swing to salsa.
UW Jazz Ensemble II will offer a selection of tunes from the following: “Bright Eyes” by Bill Holman; “Nancy Jo” by Gerald Wilson; “Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars” by Antonio Carlos Jobim, arranged by Michael Philip Mossman; “Follow Me” by Frederick Loewe (music) and Alan Jay Lerner (lyrics), arranged by Billy May; “One by One” by Wayne Shorter, arranged by Mark Taylor; “Footprints” by Shorter, arranged by Mike Tomaro; and “Nose Cone” by Al Cohn, edited by Jeffrey Sultanof.
The Wyoming Jazz Ensemble will perform “2/3’s Adventure” by Carlos Henriquez; “Afro Blue” by Mongo Santamaria; “Blue Muchacho” by Joe Gallardo; and “Squatty Roo” by Johnny Hodges, arranged by John Clayton.
