UW and Wyoming SBDC Network to Host Webinar on Cyberthreats June 13

Desktop and laptop computers are targets for cybercriminals. Other devices that hackers might attack include phones, security systems, smart thermostats, wireless printers and the Bluetooth in cars. Small-business owners will have an opportunity to learn how to guard against such cyberthreats Thursday, June 13.

Paul Johnson, Jim Drever and Ian Moon will lead a Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network webinar titled “Cyber Threats Beyond Your Computer” from noon-12:30 p.m. To register, go here. Registration is free.

The Wyoming SBDC Network offers business expertise to help Wyoming residents think about, launch, grow, reinvent or exit their business. The Wyoming SBDC Network is hosted by the University of Wyoming with state funds from the Wyoming Business Council and funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

During the webinar, small-business owners will learn about the vulnerabilities that exist outside of their computers and what they can do to make their devices more secure.

Johnson is manager of the Wyoming SBDC Network’s Cybersecurity Program.

Drever is the Wyoming SBDC Network regional director for Albany and Carbon counties. Previously, he was a marketing director and project manager at a software company, had a small consulting business and recently co-founded CyberWyoming with the Made Safe in Wyoming program.

Drever has been a source for cybersecurity for small businesses in The Wall Street Journal and has presented on the topic at national conferences. Beyond general business assistance, Drever specializes in e-marketing, e-commerce and risk management, especially cybersecurity. He is a certified ethical hacker and has a chief information security officer specialist certification with a background in vulnerability assessment, ethical hacking and cybersecurity risk assessment and management. He assists and advises clients about cybersecurity statewide.

Moon is an intern with the Wyoming SBDC Network’s Cybersecurity Program.
