UW Chamber Orchestra Concert Oct. 20 at UW

The University of Wyoming Chamber Orchestra will open its fall season at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

Tickets are $14 for the public, $11 for senior citizens and $10 for students. A nominal processing fee will be charged for each ticket. To purchase tickets, visit the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.tix.com/ticket-sales/uwyo/6984.

UW Department of Music Professor Beth Vanderborgh directs the UW Chamber Orchestra and will feature soloists UW Associate Professor Andy Wheelock, drumset; Canadian violinist Martin Beaver; and UW Professor John Fadial, violin.

The program will feature works by contemporary composer Mark Engebretson, English composer Charles Avison, Edvard Grieg and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Wheelock is an active jazz drummer and percussionist, and is the director of jazz studies and percussion area coordinator in UW’s Department of Music. Before joining UW’s faculty, Wheelock was an adjunct instructor of music at Lincoln College and Greenville University.

Beaver is an award-winning violinist and is professor of violin at the Colburn School Conservatory of Music. He was first violin of the world-renowned Tokyo String Quartet from June 2002 until its final concert in July 2013. The quartet appeared to critical and public acclaim on the major stages of the world, including New York’s Carnegie Hall; Wigmore Hall in London; Berliner Philharmonie in Berlin; Suntory Hall in Tokyo; and the Sydney Opera House. His discography includes concertos, sonatas and chamber music.

Fadial has appeared on four continents as chamber musician, soloist and pedagogue. He also served as concertmaster of the North Carolina Opera, Colorado Festival, Pro Musica Colorado Chamber Orchestra, Menuhin Festival Orchestra, Heidelberger Schlossfestspiele and Greensboro Symphony Orchestra.
