Native American Heritage Month Celebrated at UW

A number of free public events are underway for Native American Heritage Month at the University of Wyoming.

UW’s Native American Education, Resource and Cultural Center (NAERCC), Native American and Indigenous Studies Program and High Plains American Indian Research Institute (HPAIRI) sponsor the monthlong celebration.

Among Native Heritage Month activities are:

-- Monday, Nov. 4, 4 p.m.: “What’s The Humanities Got To Do With It?” Indigenous studies and community-based research presented by Jenifer Nez Denetdale, Cooper House. Dinner will be provided following the presentation at the NAERCC.

-- Monday, Nov. 11, noon-1 p.m.: “Porcupines & TEK Arts Lunch and Learn,” NAERCC classroom. Lunch will be provided.

-- Monday, Nov. 11, 1:30-6:30 p.m.: “Quilling With Philip Whiteplume” and “Rope Beading with Candace Toledo,” NAERCC classroom.

-- Wednesday, Nov. 13, noon: Guest speaker TJ Reed, NAERCC classroom.

-- Wednesday, Nov. 13, 5:30 p.m.: “Indigenous Roots of Community Peacemaker & Restoration Ways,” Room 506 of Coe Library.

-- Wednesdays, Nov. 6, 13 and 20, 5-7:30 p.m.: Indigenous crafts -- beading or sewing; supplies are provided, NAERCC classroom. Supplies are provided to NAERCC students only for craft nights.
