UW and Wyoming SBDC Network to Host Business Workshop in Thermopolis Jan. 21

For anyone contemplating starting a small business, the thought alone can be daunting. However, advice and assistance are available Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Devan Costa-Cargill and Amy Lea will lead the discussion during a Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network in-person workshop titled “Start and Fund Your Small Business” from 5:30-7 p.m. in the conference room of the Hot Springs County Library, located at 344 Arapahoe St. in Thermopolis. To register, go here. Registration is free.

The Wyoming SBDC Network offers business expertise to help Wyoming residents think about, launch, grow, reinvent or exit their business. The Wyoming SBDC Network is hosted by the University of Wyoming with state funds from the Wyoming Business Council and funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

During the workshop, small-business owners will address key considerations to launching a small business; discover pathways to business ownership; engage with other entrepreneurs; identify the components of a business plan; get prepared for funding; and consider sources of capital.

Costa-Cargill is the Wyoming SBDC Network regional director for Big Horn, Hot Springs, Park and Washakie counties. She launched her consulting career in the public school system, specifically in special education. For the past 10 years, Costa-Cargill has operated her own small business, providing consultation and enrichment to families and early educators. Her work with the Wyoming SBDC Network began in April 2021, advising small-business startups through the first important steps of their journey.

Lea is the district director of the U.S. SBA office in Casper.
