Prize-winning science journalist and author Ed Yong will speak at the University of Wyoming Thursday, Feb. 6.
Hosted by UW’s Honors College and UW Libraries, Yong will present a keynote lecture, “The Amazing Nature of Animal Senses,” at 4 p.m. in the Education Auditorium.
A recipient of the Pulitzer Prize in 2021 for an early and influential series of articles on the COVID-19 pandemic, Yong has written multiple New York Times bestsellers that demonstrate his wide-ranging expertise as a science journalist. His book, “An Immense World: How Animal Senses Reveal the Hidden Realms Around Us,” received the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction and the Royal Society Trivedi Science Book Prize.
“An Immense World” explores the vast differences in sensory experience among species, while Yong’s earlier book, “I Contain Multitudes: The Microbes Within Us and a Grander View of Life,” investigates the ways that animals are home to millions of microbes and bacteria.
Yong’s investigative journalism has been recognized for exceptional reporting in the sciences. His awards include the George Polk Award for science reporting and the Victor Cohn Prize for medical science reporting.
From 2015-2023, Yong wrote for The Atlantic, and his work has been featured in renowned publications including National Geographic, The New York Times and The New Yorker.
The Honors College will host a lunch with UW students for Yong Feb. 6 to facilitate meaningful discussion and prepare for his keynote lecture in the afternoon. Those interested in attending the lunch and/or the lecture are asked to RSVP here.
