In “Trials and Triumphs,” White explores the experiences of Black students at UW, from the 1969 dismissal of the Black 14 football players for peacefully protesting racial injustice to the story of Bonnie Mae Fermon, UW’s first known Black graduate student, who earned her zoology degree in 1947.

Drawing from decades of research and personal interviews, White reveals a compelling history of resilience, activism and the ongoing fight for equality that shaped UW’s past and continues to inspire today.
