Reception for UW Art Museum Spring Exhibitions Feb. 21

An opening reception for all spring exhibitions at the University of Wyoming Art Museum is scheduled 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21.

The event celebrates the opening of the Art Museum’s spring exhibitions, featuring “Serena Perrone: A Volcano Pilgrim in Exchange for Fire” and an awards ceremony for the 50th annual Juried UW Student Exhibition.

The event is free and open to the public. Light appetizers will be served, and a cash bar will be available.

A highlight of the UW Art Museum’s exhibition program, the juried student exhibition, presents artwork from selected UW students. In conjunction with the Art Museum’s larger exhibition “Sympoiesis: Co-Creating Sense of Place,” this year’s student juried exhibition is focused on work exploring the theme of “sense of place.” An awards ceremony is scheduled at 6 p.m.

Perrone created “A Volcano Pilgrim in Exchange for Fire,” a series that forges a connection across time and place less than a year after she learned of poet and UW Professor Craig Arnold’s April 2009 disappearance in Japan.

Perrone quickly became engrossed in the story and invested in the ultimately unsuccessful search for Arnold. Her works are composed of several layered printmaking techniques, including intaglio, monotype, silkscreen and letterpress.

For more information about the spring reception, email Will Bowling, UW Art Museum public programs coordinator, at wbowling@uwyo.edu.
