The University of Wyoming Department of Music Recital Series continues with works for voice, viola and piano at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall.
Featured in the free public performance will be UW Department of Music Professor Theresa Bogard, piano; Glesse Collet, viola; and UW music Assistant Professor Magdalena Wór, mezzo-soprano. The program will feature works by composers Fryderyk Chopin, Romanza Carlos Gomes, Johannes Brahms, Frank Bridge, Francisco Mignone and João Gomes de Araújo.
Bogard is a versatile performer dedicated to expanding the canon of traditional piano repertoire, especially focusing on performing works by women and other lesser-known composers. A world traveler with a passion for other cultures, Bogard has performed throughout the U.S. and in 16 countries on five continents. Her extensive discography includes recordings ranging from solo piano to chamber music collaborations, from music of living composers to her specialty in fortepiano and historical performance practice.
She received a coveted Fulbright grant that supported her study of historical performance practice and fortepiano at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in the Netherlands. That same year, she was a top prize winner in the International Mozart Fortepiano Competition in Bruges, Belgium.
Wór teaches Applied Voice Lessons and Opera Workshop courses at UW. She is a Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions national finalist; winner of the International Marcella Sembrich Kochańska and the Heinz Rehfuss vocal competitions; a finalist of the International Marcello Giordani and Moniuszko competitions; and is an alumna of the San Francisco Opera’s Merola Summer Opera Program and the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program at the Washington National Opera.
She has sung with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Washington National Opera, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Opera, the National Philharmonic, Palm Beach Opera, Baltic Opera, Virginia Opera, Washington Concert Opera, Birmingham Opera, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Richmond Symphony Orchestra and New Trinity Baroque.
Wór has collaborated with fellow musicians nationally, as well as in Great Britain, Mexico, the Philippines and Poland.
Collet, an award-winning Brazilian musician, immigrated to the U.S. in 2016. She served as principal viola in the Symphony Orchestra of Teatro Nacional de Brasília for five years. She has been a viola soloist with conductors Claudio Santoro, Oswaldo Colasso, Gerald Kegelmann, Piero Bastianelli, Elena Herrera and Claudio Cohen.
She has performed throughout Brazil and around the world as a member of the Quarteto de Brasília, whose critically acclaimed recordings have received the Sharp Prize for the “Best Classical Music CD,” the OK Prize, the Federal District Cultural Merit Order Award and the Carlos Gomes Prize for Classical Music in the category “Best Chamber Music Ensemble of the Year.”
Collet also is featured on a solo disc of works by Brazilian composers.
