UW Haub School Wild and Working Lands Film Festival Premiering March 27

The University of Wyoming Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources’ fourth annual Wild and Working Lands Film Festival will premiere Thursday, March 27, at the Gryphon Theatre, located at 710 E. Garfield St.

The festival, free and open to the public, features a program of eight short films exploring relationships between people and the landscapes where citizens live, work and play. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and films begin at 7 p.m.

With an emphasis on stories set in the wild and rural areas of the Great Plains, the Rocky Mountains and high desert sagebrush steppe, the festival inspires audiences to better understand the current world and to work toward a future where people and natural environments prosper together, says festival Director Anastasia Brady.

She hopes the event will shed light on the innovative conservation initiatives taking place across the West, benefiting both human communities and natural habitats. According to Brady, the showcased films celebrate the profound connection between people and the land.

The Wild and Working Lands Film Festival is dedicated to fostering a collective understanding of the contemporary world and striving for a future where both human and natural environments flourish together, all through the captivating medium of film.

Among the film topics to be screened are conservation efforts in Wyoming; wildlife-friendly fencing; wolf reintroduction in Colorado; Indigenous ceremonies; regenerative agriculture practices in Montana; protecting ancestral lands from mining projects; and restoring trout habitat.

Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase through the Gryphon Theatre.

In addition to the in-person screening, a supplementary selection of honorable mention films will be available to stream from the festival’s website following the premiere.

For more information, to become a festival sponsor or to host a screening of the festival in local communities, visit the festival’s website at www.uwyo.edu/haub/events/film-festival/ or email Brady at abrady2@uwyo.edu.

The Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources advances the understanding and resolution of complex environment and natural resource issues. The school supports students as well as citizens, stakeholders and decision-makers by providing the skills and tools needed to build durable, inclusive solutions to the most pressing environment and natural resource challenges.
