The University of Wyoming’s School of Energy Resources (SER) will once again host the Rocky Mountain Professional Landman Conference Thursday, April 10.
The in-person forum seeks to bring together industry professionals and professional landman alumni in the Rocky Mountain region to showcase the profession; discuss current topics and issues facing the industry; and explore career paths and opportunities for future graduates.
The conference will take place from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the UW Conference Center in Laramie.
This year’s conference will feature Nancy McCaskell, the current president of the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL), as the keynote speaker. McCaskell also will lead an engaging panel of primarily SER alumni and a current student discussing different pathways and opportunities in the land profession.
“This is the third year that the president of AAPL has graciously accepted our invitation to headline this event, and we are delighted to have Ms. McCaskell join us,” says SER Academic Director Kami Danaei. “The collaboration with AAPL signifies a powerful synergy, deeply enriching our educational programs and providing invaluable real-world insights that will empower our students to excel in their future endeavors.”
Beyond the keynote, attendees can anticipate a robust program featuring leading experts delving into critical industry topics. Sessions will explore the cutting-edge intersection of mixed-use development amid competing regulatory agencies; the transformative potential and ethical considerations of artificial intelligence and machine learning in land management; and the complex legal ethics involved in land negotiations.
Further, panels will address the intricacies of the National Environmental Policy Act on federal lands; the importance of thorough due diligence in land acquisition; the intersection of the land profession and public service in the state; and the entire life cycle of a well, from initial exploration to decommissioning.
The conference is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To register and for details -- including the agenda, speaker bios, and travel and accommodation information -- visit the event website.
The conference provides 4.5 continuing education credits and one ethics credit, for a total of 5.5 credits through AAPL. It has been approved for more than six hours of continuing legal education credits -- including at least one hour of ethics credit -- in both Wyoming and Colorado.
The Student Chapter for Energy Resources will host a networking reception from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, in UW’s Energy Innovation Center. The reception will include a raffle to support the student club, which uses funding for experiential learning events throughout the academic year. All conference registrants are invited to attend and connect with current UW students and other industry professionals.
