UW to Celebrate Native American Student Achievements

The University of Wyoming will host the 2025 Native American Scholarship and Awards Ceremony at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center.

This event will honor Native American students at UW and recognize the donors supporting their educational journeys.

“The University of Wyoming is deeply honored to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our Native American students,” UW President Ed Seidel says. “Their dedication to academic excellence and commitment to their communities embody the very best of our university’s values. We are proud to stand alongside them and the generous donors who are helping to shape a brighter future for Native leaders and our state.”

The ceremony will recognize the resilience, dedication and excellence of Native American scholars, particularly those from Wyoming and the Wind River Reservation. These students are making significant contributions through their academic pursuits, study-abroad experiences and community service. Their efforts are strengthening Native leadership and economic development.

“Every scholarship awarded is an opportunity for our youth to reach their goals,” says James Trosper, special adviser to the UW president. “This event gives us the opportunity to celebrate their dedication and exceptional work ethic. We could not be more pleased and prouder with how our youth continue to grow in their higher education pursuits.”

The awards ceremony underscores UW’s ongoing commitment to supporting and engaging with Native students and communities. It follows the success of the 2024 Native American Scholarship Ceremony and the Native American Education, Research and Cultural Center open house during UW’s Homecoming. These events showcase the university’s dedication to supporting Native leaders and strengthening community connections.

“This event represents more than scholarship awards -- it’s a celebration of the inspiring achievements of our Native students and the generous support of our donors,” says Lucus Hansen, UW Foundation director of development. “Together, UW is fostering opportunities that build a stronger future for Native communities and the state of Wyoming.”

The evening will include a formal dinner, guest speakers and award presentations, offering an opportunity for students, faculty, community members and supporters to gather in celebration.
