The University of Wyoming Art Museum will host a two-part workshop on strappo, the unique painting style pioneered by the late Harold Garde, Wednesday-Thursday, March 12-13, from 5:30-8 p.m. in the museum’s classroom and studio.
Strappo is a monotype process that involves layered paint on glass removed to paper or canvas. Wendy Bredehoft, a local artist and former UW Art Museum staff member who is prolific in the strappo technique, will lead the workshop. During 2024, Bredehoft led four other workshops during the run of the Garde exhibition.
Garde is a celebrated American painter who attended UW after returning from service in World War II. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, he studied visual arts using the G.I. Bill. Garde studied with a progressive group of faculty members -- Leon Kelly, Ilya Bolotowsky and George McNeil -- who represented different styles of modern art.
This two-part workshop is by registration only, and space is limited. To register, go here. The cost is $20.
