University of Wyoming education students have the opportunity to visit public school buildings and classrooms next month as part of the Wyoming Classroom Connections Tour, which is sponsored by the Wyoming School-University Partnership and the UW College of Education.
The Wyoming Classroom Connections Tour, scheduled Thursday, April 10, is a unique experience designed for future teachers who are in their first two years of the UW College of Education educator preparation program. The tour is free to participants.
“The tour provides an inside look at Wyoming schools, allowing students to observe classrooms, connect with school leaders and educators, and learn about the incredible opportunities available for new educators across the state and in rural communities,” says Nicholas Jesse, Wyoming School-University Partnership senior project coordinator.
Faculty and staff members from the Wyoming School-University Partnership and the UW College of Education will join each group on the tour.
Three separate tours are scheduled to schools in Goshen, Laramie and Platte counties. Participants will meet at UW’s South Express Lot at 7:15 a.m., with a departure time of 7:30 a.m. The Laramie and Platte county tours are from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; and the Goshen County visit will be from 9:45 a.m.-3 p.m. All tours will return to the South Express Lot between 4:30-5:30 p.m.
The Wyoming Classroom Connections Tour has four parts: a classroom tour, school leadership visit, classroom observations and teacher/faculty visit, which includes:
-- The general school tour for the entire group or several small groups. The tour will include visits to school buildings and facilities, and visits to unique or innovative spaces at the participating schools, with highlighted programs and student work samples presented.
-- School leadership and team visits will feature tours of school buildings and facilities, including innovative learning spaces; observation of classrooms to experience real-world, rural teaching environments; and engagement with local school leaders to learn about district priorities, teacher support programs and job opportunities. Participants also will connect with experienced educators to discuss best practices and challenges in the field, and to gain insight about what makes each school and community unique.
Lunch will be provided by the hosting school districts.
Students must register for the tour before Wednesday March 26. To register, go here.
