An experienced technology leader and faculty member has been chosen as the University of Wyoming’s vice president for information technology and chief information officer.

Amy McLaughlin, currently the executive director for technical and solutions architecture at Oregon State University (OSU), will begin the role at UW Tuesday, July 1.

“I am thrilled to welcome Amy to UW,” President Ed Seidel says. “Her extensive background in IT and her experience as a faculty member prepare her to further strengthen our already strong IT division and enhance its collaborations with faculty, staff and students for the benefit of the entire university community.”

“I’m honored and excited to join the University of Wyoming as vice president for information technology and CIO,” McLaughlin says. “UW’s mission as a land-grant institution -- to unlock the extraordinary in every person through education, research, innovation, engagement and service -- deeply resonates with me. I look forward to collaborating with the administration, faculty, staff and students and, most especially, the dedicated IT professionals at UW, to advance that mission and support the university community in meaningful and transformative ways.”

McLaughlin has served in IT leadership since 2001, including multiple statewide leadership roles for the state of Oregon. Before joining OSU, she held key positions that spanned agencies and impacted state-level IT strategy and operations, culminating in her role as director of IT operations and acting deputy chief information officer for state relationships at the Oregon Department of Education.

In 2017, she took her expertise to OSU as director of information services for Student Health Services and was promoted to executive director of technical and solutions architecture in 2021. She also is an adjunct faculty member teaching IT and workplace psychology courses.

McLaughlin holds a B.A. in English literature and history from the University of Oregon, an M.A. in marriage and family therapy from Northwest Christian University (now Bushnell University), and an M.S. in information technology management from Western Governors University.
