The University of Wyoming Department of Music will host the Sympatico Percussion Group at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 27, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. The concert is free and open to the public.
Sympatico Percussion Group creates programs with entertainment and intrigue, virtuosity and poignancy, and appealing melodies and vibrant rhythms from around the world. The ensemble’s diverse and eclectic repertoire includes rudimental drumming, ragtime xylophone, pop transcriptions and uncategorized original compositions that embrace global streams of contemporary musical styles.
The group exhibits a true connection of musical backgrounds, aesthetics and vision. True to its name, Sympatico is comprised of five like-minded individuals whose collective experience spans multiple decades as performers, composers, educators and collaborators in the arts. Members draw on many years of performing throughout North America and abroad with chamber ensembles, orchestras, military bands and as soloists.
Formed in 2008, Sympatico Percussion Group features Greg Beyer, Scott Herring, Joseph Krygier, Johnny Mendoza and Susan Powell. The group has more than 75 years of teaching experience, including appointments at Ohio State University, University of South Carolina, University of Northern Illinois and McMurry University.
