University of Wyoming Interim Provost Scott Turpen has announced he will return to the deanship of UW’s College of Arts and Sciences this summer.
Turpen became the interim provost Nov. 25 after leading the College of Arts and Sciences since July 1, 2022. He’s set to return to the dean role Aug. 1.
“My appointment as interim provost was always intended to be temporary, and I’m excited to return to my college,” says Turpen, a longtime Department of Music faculty member who served as a department head and associate dean of the college before taking the reins as dean in 2022. “I remain very optimistic about the future of the university.”
UW President Ed Seidel is seeking letters of interest from faculty members, vice provosts and deans to serve as interim provost while a nationwide search for the next provost is conducted. Those interested in serving in the role should submit a letter of interest and their CV to the president at uwpres@uwyo.edu by Wednesday, May 21. Seidel plans to announce the interim provost following the June Board of Trustees meeting.
“I deeply appreciate Dr. Turpen’s service to the university. He has done a tremendous job as interim provost during a challenging time on campus,” Seidel says. “I understand and respect his decision to return to the deanship in the College of Arts and Sciences.”
